About The Scientist

Gregory Afra KOMLAGA is a qualified Food Technologist and Quality Management Professional with over twenty-three (23) years’ experience in research and development, and experience in project and consultancy management. Gregory holds a PhD degree in Food Science and Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana and a Certificate in Project Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra, Ghana. Gregory attracted donor funding for research and development through proposal writing and worked on several international donor funded Agricultural Value Chain Projects in a reputable Research Institute in Ghana; The Food Research Institute of The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-FRI). He was the Assistant Country Manager of the “Cassava: Adding Value for Africa Phase II (C:AVA II) Ghana Project” sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from April 2014 to March 2019. Gregory has provided expertise in Quality Management to several cassava processing enterprises in Ghana and facilitated delivery of standard cassava products to meet end user requirements. Gregory collaborated with a number of renowned national and international partners on several projects in the area of food processing technology development to enhance livelihoods of households in Ghana. He also served as a consultant on several national and international projects in the areas of roots and tuber products, and cereal processing. He attended a number of local and international conferences/workshops over the period of his professional career and contributed to knowledge in his area of expertise. Gregory is currently a Principal Research Scientist at CSIR-FRI with research interests in the areas of Roots and Tuber Crops, Cereals and Legumes, Fermentation Science and Quality Management Systems. Gregory has a little over one hundred (100) scientific publications to his credit; including refereed journal publications, technical papers and training manuals. He is married with three lovely children and likes gardening as a hobby.


Food Research Institute is located Adjacent to Ghana Standards Authority, Near Gulf House, Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, Accra, Ghana.
